What is an XtraNet?
Extranet defined
An extranet is an intranet that is partially accessible to authorized
outside users. Whereas an intranet resides behind a firewall and is
accessible only to people who are members of the same organization,
an extranet also resides behind a firewall and provides various levels
of access to outsiders. An extranet can only be accessed by a valid
username and password, and the user identity determines which parts
of the extranet can be viewed. An extranet is a logical solution
for business partners to exchange information.
Bringing it together
In today's computerized world the corporate information security
department is typically charged with controlling the corporate firewall.
Corporate security plans do not allow for access to corporate data from
outside sources nor do the plans allow these outside agents to penetrate
the firewall. In addition multi-state / multi-international corporations
often have throughput or access issues for remote networks and servers
inside the corporate firewall. By design, LXI's extranet infrastructure
overcomes these problems. LXI's highly secured network and physical
facility allows for the sharing of applications and electronically
stored information between corporate in-house and outside counsels.
Additionally, hosted applications are easily accessed via the Internet
for even the most remote locations.
